Denture Try-In Checklist for Predictable Delivery

A try-in is not a courtesy visit. It is the last cheap moment to change midline, plane, and tooth mold before we process or mill the definitive.

What to evaluate in the chair

Midline versus the face, not versus the residual ridge. Incisal plane versus the eyes and the lip at rest. VDO and freeway space. Phonetics on sibilants.

Ask the patient to look in a mirror in conversational light. Fluorescent operatory light hides the things they will hate at dinner.

How to write changes so we do not guess

“Move midline 1 mm to the patient’s right. Drop 8 and 9 0.5 mm. Keep this mold.” is a finishable note. “Make it look younger” is not.

Photograph the try-in on the face if you want us to see lip support. A model photo cannot show that.

Partials need the same honesty

Rest seats, clasp comfort, and the way the acrylic meets the abutment teeth should be checked before we finish. A tight clasp that the patient cannot seat will come back as a remake, not a “tweak.”

Phoenix Dental Tech finishes NJ denture cases from the notes you send at try-in. If you loved the try-in, write “process as is.” That sentence saves everyone.

FAQ

Can I skip a try-in on a digital denture?

You can, if you and the patient already approved a printed try-in or a previous denture you are copying exactly. Skipping both is how we reprint a smile the patient never wanted.
